Sarah’s Achievement Story

Sarah Knorr is a young woman and although she is still in school, she has created her own dog treat business. With the help of her mom Sybrina, Dog Bites by Sarah treats are made in their home and sold at local events, in-person, and online. What separates these treats from others is that they’re all natural. The origins of this business started out when Sarah attended 4-H Center’s cooking club where they made dog treats. Since Sarah doesn’t have a dog, she shared them with her neighbors. Then during a snow day in March 2017, Sarah and Sybrina made more dog treats, packaged them, and walked around their neighborhood to sell. Josh’s Achievement Story

Josh is a 26 year-old young professional living independently in an apartment in Narberth, PA. He lives alone, but is looking for a girlfriend that he would like to live with one day. He currently works as a job coordinator at Career Link, which actually started out as a volunteer position before being hired as a paid employee. This year, Josh won JEVS’ Inspiration Award for the ability to inspire others with his story. Prior to working, Josh graduated from Beacon College in Florida and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Human Services and an Associate’s degree in Web and Social Media. Brendan’s Achievement Story

Brendan lives in Willow Grove and is always keeping busy. He works as a bagger 3 days each week at Giant and receives job coaching services through ALTEC. This is a job he’s had for over 15 years. When not at work, Brendan goes into the community to various stores and restaurants. Some of his favorite places include the Apple Store, Ollie’s Bargain Outlet, and dining out at a Chinese restaurant or Miller’s Ale House. Brendan is also very involved in sports, mainly through Special Olympics. He has been swimming since 2000. His favorite swim style is the backstroke, particularly the 100-yard backstroke but he also enjoys the 50-yard freestyle. Brendan has even gone to Penn State to compete in swimming events. Kathleen’s Achievement Story

Kathleen exemplifies the qualities of a self-advocate. She speaks up for herself and has been a member of the Developmental Disabilities Committee for Montgomery County for the past 15 years. Kathleen gives back by volunteering at her church and Visions for Equality. In addition to volunteering, she also is an active member in her community by involving herself in Special Olympics, advocacy events, and charity cancer walks. Kathleen enjoys going to the beach and library in her free time. On May 26, 2016, Kathleen’s efforts were recognized. She was awarded the Citizenship Award at The Arc Alliance’s Awards Dinner. Congratulations to Kathleen for all she’s accomplished and for being an inspiration to others!

Tara’s Achievement Story

Tara has been volunteering here at The Arc Alliance since 2014, but her success and accomplishments don’t start there. For 23 years, Tara worked as a merchandise processor at Strawbridge and Clothier, which later became Macy’s. She then worked at TJ Maxx for some time before obtaining her current job at a Home Health Aid company. Tara also occasionally dog sits for a friend when they are away. When she isn’t working, volunteering, or caring for her cat Ellie, Tara enjoys spending her free time coloring, watching TV, cooking, and knitting. Tara has knitted prayer shawls, scarves, and baby blankets for friends and family members. Learning to cook is one of Tara’s goals and she hopes to be a guest on the Rachel Ray [...]

Music Together has made our kiddos little musicians!

Dear Ms. Fran, Ms. Dana & The Arc Alliance: Music Together - Children Enjoying Making Music Music Together has made our kiddos little musicians!  “J” (3-5 years and known as “J” in class) and “A” (15 months) have enjoyed music class at The Arc for three semesters and wish each class they grow more excited and confident.  I signed on for the first 10-week session while “J” was involved in weekly speech therapy through the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit last September.  Her speech was significantly delayed and she was very uncomfortable in larger social settings.  “A” was just shy of 6 months when he came along for his first class and dozed through most of it. AHCA/Medicaid block grants – potential negative impact

On Wednesday May 17, 2017 Julie Gerhart-Rothholz,  participated in a press conference with Senator Casey & Senator Maggie Hassan and an Occupational Therapist to address the AHCA and Medicaid block grants. As a parent and Boar Member of The Arc Alliance, Julie addressed the topic of how AHCA/Medicaid block grants can negatively impact her son Evan. Julie ended the session providing a significant context on this challenging issue. Bucks County Commissioners Recognize Intellectual Developmental Disabilities Month
