The Arc Alliance Community Services provides a variety of support and services for older individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Representative Payee (Rep Payee) Services:

Representative Payee Services:

The Arc Alliance’s Representative Payee Program provides the security of money management. The Arc Alliance is a qualified organization, through the Social Security Administration to receive Social Security benefits (SSI, SSD, Retirement benefits). The main duties of a Rep Payee are to use benefits to pay for the current and future needs of the beneficiary, and save any benefits not needed to meet current needs.  Reporting is submitted to Social Security on the regular and/or requested basis.

The Arc Alliance provides representative payee services in many counties throughout Pennsylvania, including: Berks, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lancaster, Lehigh, Montgomery and Philadelphia.  The Arc Alliance has the capability to expand these services to other counties as requested.

As Representative Payee, The Arc Alliance:

  • Arranges for the client’s Social Security income to be deposited directly into an individual checking account;
  • Creates a budget to govern how the funds are to be utilized;
  • Assures prompt payment of indicated bills and disburses any agreed upon personal expense money;
  • Charges a small fee, which is determined by Social Security, plus any nominal administrative fees from our banking partners.

Guardianship Services:

A Guardian is appointed by the Court to manage the health and/or financial affairs of an Incapacitated Person.  A judge makes a decision on capacity with testimony during a court hearing.

Guardian of the Person:

The Arc Alliance Community Services provides Guardianship services provides services to individuals who are in need of someone to make decisions on their behalf that ensures their safety and well-being. The Arc Alliance is appointed by the court to make personal, medical and end of life decisions as the Guardian of Person. The scope of these powers is defined by the court.

Guardian of the Estate:

The Arc Alliance ensures that individual estates (financial matters) are managed and protected in a responsible (fiduciary) manner. This includes but is not limited to: filing inventory, initial and annual reports with the court and safeguarding all assets. Medical Assistance applications are processed for individuals who reside in long-term care facilities, are eligible for community waiver programs and those eligible to receive services through the Department of Human Services (DHS). The scope of these powers is defined by the court.

Power of Attorney (POA):

The Arc Alliance also provides services to individuals who may need assistance with their current or future decisions medically and/or financially as Power of Attorney (POA) through a legal written document granting the Arc Alliance authority to act on an individual’s behalf. The scope of these powers is defined by the written document.

The Arc Alliance’s Guardianship Department provides Guardianship services to Berks, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lancaster, Lehigh, Montgomery and Philadelphia Counties. The Arc Alliance has the capability to expand these services to other counties as requested.

Monica has over ten years of direct family and individual with disabilities support experience. As the director of Advocacy Monica supervised the Support Coordination staff and provided family support herself. Monica possesses direct experience with various state and local agencies as well as extensive knowledge of young children, adults and the service issues and requirements they require. Through her professional experience Monica has logged thousands of hours of support, navigating and training families to better support and seek assistance for their child through the educational system and beyond. Today Monica is the Director of Community Services overseeing Guardianship, Representative Payee and Community Support Programs.
Curt Byers
Curt ByersTransition Coordinator
Curt is a graduate of Messiah College and Asbury Theological Seminary. His varied background includes pastoral ministry in urban London, UK, leading pre- and post-internet online media initiatives, and founder and/or executive roles in several dot com-era high tech start-ups. He is a co-author of curricula published in the U.S. and U.K. In 2005 Curt returned to human services as a psychotherapist increasingly specializing in work with children and young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Supporting his clients in workplace challenges as they graduated from high school resulted in a growing focus on vocational services leading to his 2017 hire by The Arc Alliance to launch its first vocational services program.
