030in. strip cut into squares and drilled out. For the rubber strips I found a pack of semicircular Evergreen rods that fitted. The right side also has two spare track-link hangers (normally mounted on the rear hull of British Challengers) and a long rectangular vent. 010in. strip. Note that there is no tow cable mount on the right hull. The left side of the hull required the repositioning of the tow bar and swivel link attached to a triangular mounting plate. The circular tow cable mounting points and other tow cable hardware were taken from the kit and attached to the side, as were two U-shaped supports I had from a spare Trumpeter Challenger kit.
The fuel drums were only tacked on with white glue as I planned to remove them for painting. An M2 50-cal. MG was stolen from a Type 90 MBT, as it came with the correct brass and link collection baskets. In profile, the RAO has an almost Soviet look to it, with the large high mount MG, slack tracks and deck-mounted fuel drums. The Friul track links were easy to work with, though after taking this photo I removed a link from each side. The tow cable brackets came from the Trumpeter Cr 2 kit. Moving to the right side of the hull, I began by making the attachment points for the side armour.
The top edge of the flap was detailed with a strip of bolts on the front and each side. The top rear of the hull was next up, with some Eduard screens for the deck and some Scale Scenics brass mesh for the centre grilles. The deck sitting under the rear turret overhang also got some grab handle pockets drilled out and some panel lines were rescribed for the correct hatch outline. Each of the hinge ends for the deck grilles received a small punch and die bolt head, as did the hinged ends on the fuel filler caps.
