Translucent clay 4" of flower center cane (from cosmos or other flower) Making the cane 1. Mix half the yellow clay with a little orange so you have a dark yellow for petals and a light yellow for the outline. Make thick snakes of the red, orange, and dark yellow clays, and flatten them to 1" wide and several inches long, just as with the cosmos flower cane. Cut and place these on top of each other to form a striped stack of 36 Celebrations With Polymer Clay yellow, red, yellow, orange, yellow, red.

4. Press the original baked face into the oval of clay, face down. Press straight down, not at an angle. The clay ball should be large enough so that when the original face is pressed in it, there is still clay under the nose. Don’t press the face so far into the clay that it pokes through the bottom. There should also be clay around all the edges. 5. Pull the Elasticlay up to meet the outside edges of the original, forming a nice solid mold wall. If you have lots of excess, trim some off at this point.

6. Bake these pulls according to the clay package directions for 30 minutes. You can stain them or add details with acrylic paints. You can also use powdered chalk or powdered face makeup to color them before baking, or use Prismacolor pencils or felt tip pens to color them after baking. Note: You can add further clay “dressing” and embellishments before you bake the faces, but I prefer to bake the faces first, then rebake assemblages. This not only keeps the unbaked faces from getting marred or smashed, it also allows me to stain, antique, or color the entire face piece, then drape clay over the features.
