We kept the hair simple so that the feathers could be extravagant. The basic wing shape is protectively cupped. The gouge shaping should follow the feathers. Continue the wing curve so that it wou ld seem to go behind the head. Round the leading edges of the curved top of each wing; the big flight feather area can be flatter with a crisp edge. Feather size is based on the gouge width, with successive rows overlapping like shingles. Unlike shingles, however, your carving will begin on the top row.
Tilt it slightly toward the arrow's center, push to the point. After the corresponding cut on the arrow's other side, a v-shaped chip should pop out.
