The Arc Alliance & Ambucs Partnering in Support

The joy in a child's face is absolutely priceless! When you couple that joy with a families emotional appreciation it can be humbling.  This past Wednesday night  The Arc Alliance Children's Services partnered with our local Ambucs Chapter to provide four families and their child with a first tryke. As you can see from the sampling of images below, it was a great night. The Arc Alliance Children's Services has had many opportunities and the privilege to partner with Ambucs and provide children with a Tryke Bike. Governor Wolf Proclamation – Direct Support Professional Recognition Week Sept. 9-15, 2018

Direct Support Professionals play a critical role for individuals with disabilities and their families. In many cases these staff become almost as close as family. The Arc Alliance and all our staff are honored to be part of our families lives. ESY Chat-n-Chew Session

The Arc Alliance continues to provide resources for individuals and families on a variety of topics. The Chat-n-Chew offerings are one avenue for you to gain knowledge, build networks and engage others working through similar issues as you and your family. Workshops are offered during the day and in the evening, starting either at 11:30 am or 6:30 pm lasting for an hour and a half. The day sessions provide you with an opportunity to bring your lunch and The Arc Alliance will provide a beverage, snack and the training! Governor Wolf’s Budget Address

Governor Wolf invited Paul Stengle, CEO of The Arc Alliance to attend the 2018 State Budget Address in Harrisburg on February 6th. Paul has met with the governor's staff and Governor Wolf on several occasions. Paul's meetings have been focused on introducing Governor Wolf to the variety of critical issues facing individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. On many occasions Paul has invited families to address the Governor providing first hand experiences. 2017 Annual Report

The Arc Alliance 2017 Annual Report The 2016-17 year for The Arc Alliance was memorable on many levels. We were honored to work with so many individuals and their families in creating new and fulfilling life experiences. Sarah’s Achievement Story

Sarah Knorr is a young woman and although she is still in school, she has created her own dog treat business. With the help of her mom Sybrina, Dog Bites by Sarah treats are made in their home and sold at local events, in-person, and online. What separates these treats from others is that they’re all natural. The origins of this business started out when Sarah attended 4-H Center’s cooking club where they made dog treats. Since Sarah doesn’t have a dog, she shared them with her neighbors. Then during a snow day in March 2017, Sarah and Sybrina made more dog treats, packaged them, and walked around their neighborhood to sell. Josh’s Achievement Story

Josh is a 26 year-old young professional living independently in an apartment in Narberth, PA. He lives alone, but is looking for a girlfriend that he would like to live with one day. He currently works as a job coordinator at Career Link, which actually started out as a volunteer position before being hired as a paid employee. This year, Josh won JEVS’ Inspiration Award for the ability to inspire others with his story. Prior to working, Josh graduated from Beacon College in Florida and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Human Services and an Associate’s degree in Web and Social Media. Brendan’s Achievement Story

Brendan lives in Willow Grove and is always keeping busy. He works as a bagger 3 days each week at Giant and receives job coaching services through ALTEC. This is a job he’s had for over 15 years. When not at work, Brendan goes into the community to various stores and restaurants. Some of his favorite places include the Apple Store, Ollie’s Bargain Outlet, and dining out at a Chinese restaurant or Miller’s Ale House. Brendan is also very involved in sports, mainly through Special Olympics. He has been swimming since 2000. His favorite swim style is the backstroke, particularly the 100-yard backstroke but he also enjoys the 50-yard freestyle. Brendan has even gone to Penn State to compete in swimming events. Kathleen’s Achievement Story

Kathleen exemplifies the qualities of a self-advocate. She speaks up for herself and has been a member of the Developmental Disabilities Committee for Montgomery County for the past 15 years. Kathleen gives back by volunteering at her church and Visions for Equality. In addition to volunteering, she also is an active member in her community by involving herself in Special Olympics, advocacy events, and charity cancer walks. Kathleen enjoys going to the beach and library in her free time. On May 26, 2016, Kathleen’s efforts were recognized. She was awarded the Citizenship Award at The Arc Alliance’s Awards Dinner. Congratulations to Kathleen for all she’s accomplished and for being an inspiration to others!
