Hello everybody, today my blog will be a little more on SNAP.
Today I’m going to talk to you about the Spring-Ford SNAP program. SNAP stands for Students Need an Alternative Party. This Spring-Ford SNAP program helps organize its after prom party for the juniors and seniors. Last year I went to prom, but I did not go to the after party, but I heard it was a lot of fun. SNAP is run by a team of parents in the community of Spring-Ford. It was created to keep the student body safe on prom night. The after parties consist of games and other fun activities with adult sized bounce houses and poker games with real dealers for real money. You can even win some fantastic prizes like an iPad and laptops. Both of those prizes are made by Apple. As I said, I did not go to the after party because I was having back problems. I heard it was a lot of fun and one of my friends even stayed there the whole time it was going on. The party begins almost right after prom at 10:30.
The after prom party starts at 11 and goes to 4 AM. A lot of people help with this event including students, teachers and parents. There is a whole committee dedicated to planning this party from the bouncy houses to the poker games. I hope to go, this year it sounds like a lot of fun! Although I don’t know how much I would be able to do, it doesn’t hurt to try. One way SNAP raises money is from fund raisers like Spring-Ford’s, Dancing with the Stars. Spring-Ford’s Dancing with the Stars is a dancing competition that raising money to help cover the cost of all the festivities. How you vote for your favorite dance team is you put money in the bucket of your favorite dance team. I also like this event because it is sometimes creative and fun. You get to watch people dance. My favorite act this year was the Spring-Ford dads, they did a bunch of 80’s dance moves. They’re always trying to beat the mom’s dance team. I had a lot of fun at this event. I went with my grandparents. Besides raising money for after prom, they are raising money to keep students alive, because one less car crash on prom night is a good thing.
Did you know that every 60 seconds in the United States there is a car crash? SNAP’s mission is to try and avoid these accidents one teenage driver at a time. In my opinion it is nerve-racking how we have to organize a party just to keep our children safe. It’s sad that kids don’t make that decision themselves. We have to sort of make that decision for them. I think there should be organizations like SNAP everywhere not just for an after prom party, but for graduation and all sorts of parties.
I am almost done for the day, but before I go, I want to know what you think of this organization. I’m not sure if other schools have SNAP but if not do you think it would it be beneficial to have it in other places?
Leave your response as a comment on the “What if…” Facebook page. In a few weeks, I will be doing a follow-up to this, about the actual prom itself but until then, that’s about it for this week. Have a good day and be kind to one another.
I have a lot of fun and I would do it again if I could
