Karly is a fabulous, vibrant young woman who lives life to the fullest, immersing herself in a world of activities and interests that bring her joy and purpose. Naturally gifted at connecting with people, Karly exemplifies resilience, never allowing her disability to limit her. She participates in many activities, including travel, writing to her pen pals she meets while on her trips, bowling leagues, square dancing groups, dance classes, student teaching dance, and leading “Krafts with Karly,” a creative class she hosts at a local elementary school.

From a young age, Karly has embraced opportunities to try new things and give back to her community. Throughout high school, she took part in five full-length musicals, played on unified sports teams like bocce, bowling, and track and field. She’s also used her voice to advocate for inclusion and awareness, representing Unified Sports at a presentation in Hershey, PA. On National Down Syndrome Day, Karly has the opportunity to speak to 4th and 5th-grade students, answering their questions and promoting understanding about down syndrome.

Karly is a dancer, she has been with her studio for 20 years, performing at local events, including those at senior centers and retirement communities. Motivated by her love of dance and desire to “give back,” Karly has spent five years as a student teacher for young dancers aged 3-5 and 5-7, dedicating two hours each week to helping them grow. Her commitment to service extends to her “Krafts with Karly” class, where she teaches multi-handicapped children, selecting weekly craft projects, gathering materials, setting up, giving instructions, and helping students. After each session, she displays the completed crafts on a bulletin board for others to enjoy.

Karly is involved with Special Olympics, on their bowling team. She bowls with them each fall and continues with some of the same bowlers through winter, spring, and summer. Additionally, she bowls year-round with an adult social league.

The Arc Alliance has played a crucial role in supporting Karly’s journey, offering her the foundation for independence, advocacy skills, and confidence to explore her passions. With the guidance of her Supports Coordinator, who works closely with Karly’s family and school, she has gained access to enriching opportunities. Her SC, Aisha, is continuously inspired by Karly’s determination and the joy she brings to everything she does.

Through The Arc Alliance, Karly has experienced many “firsts,” such as music therapy, overnight camping trips, The “I Can” Goggle Center Art Show, and Using her access card. Her Access Card has opened doors to inspiring places like the Helicopter Museum, Barnes Foundation, Longwood Gardens, Fish Hatchery, Michener Museum, Boyertown Car Museum, and The Franklin Institute. She has even volunteered at some of The Arc Alliance’s events, including the Charity Golf Outing and Breakfast with Frosty.

For Karly, family is everything. Though her siblings live across the U.S., they remain tightly connected, supporting her every step, just as she fills their lives with warmth and joy. When people hear the word “fabulous,” they think of Karly. She truly embodies the term, as her spirit and determination leave a lasting impact on everyone she meets.
