Shannon has been connected with The Arc Alliance since she was a young girl, and her journey showcases her incredible growth over the years. Reflecting on her experiences, Shannon shared, “The Arc Alliance has impacted me throughout the years. They helped me find the job I am at today… The Arc worked with me when I was young. They helped me walk and talk.” These early supports set the foundation for her resilience and independence.

Since then, Shannon has continued to flourish! Recently, she and her family moved to Florida, where she has embraced a new chapter in her life. Shortly after her move, Shannon secured a job at a family-friendly café, where parents can relax with a coffee while their little ones play. In her role, Shannon helps maintain the playrooms, clean up, and even makes specialty coffees. Although she misses her friends in Pennsylvania, Shannon is enjoying her new life in Florida and has adapted wonderfully to the change.

Eager to get involved in her new community, Shannon plans to volunteer at the YMCA, join Special Olympics, and connected with new friends through Best Buddies. Her determination to make a difference wherever she goes is inspiring.

We were thrilled to see Shannon recently at the Integrate for Good 2024 Community Heroes Celebration, where she was honored with the 2024 Leadership Award. Shannon was part of Integrate for Good’s first Leadership Incubator. Though she was initially shy and reserved, she emerged as a confident and motivating leader, even mentoring participants in the second cohort. Shannon embodies the transformative power of stepping outside one’s comfort zone and embracing new opportunities.

Shannon’s journey is a testament to her strength, and we are so proud to celebrate her achievements
